Zalando Warehouse Design System

Design System for Warehouse Apps with Stephanie Marie Cedeño

in Jul 2022 - Jun 2023

While working in Zalando for a year I was working on creating design system with a support from my senior colleagues. Warehouse applications are iconography heavy, so my biggest focus was creating pictograms that are understood for Warehouse workers.

Designing for warehouse apps: key considerations

Minimum interactions

Warehouse workers work with MDE devices or computer monitors, where main interaction is to scan a barcode. There are rare possibilities to click a button.

At a glance

Workers spend little time to read instructions in apps. Important information needs to be big and clear.

Testing

Apps are usually tested after development and after learning curve (2 weeks). Unfortunately, designers are not involved in this research, we get only second-hand information from our collegues.

Accessibility

Environment of warehouse is very loud, dark between raws. Workers can have a language barrier.
